The Role
PLASMOR LIMITED is one of the UK’s largest independent building block and block paving manufacturers, with a reputation for supplying quality products to our customers.
A vacancy for a Kiln Operator has arisen within our production plant at our site in Great Heck, North Yorkshire. Reporting to the Team Leader, the position demands good teamwork and a versatile skill set to fulfil the various responsibilities and duties of the role. Whilst relevant experience of similar production operations is desirable, training will be provided.
Responsibilities will include:
- operating the Kilns from the control room to produce expanded clay aggregate at the required density, whilst minimizing fuel consumption and maintaining emissions within acceptable levels,
- keeping the kilns operational in all situations, including power outage situations,
- hourly product quality checks,
- completing production sheets,
- general housekeeping of clay preparation building, kiln areas and conveyors,
- production plant inspections and reporting of defects,
- operation, once trained, of wheeled loading shovel for stockpiling clay deliveries,
- operation of telehandler forklift truck, once trained,
- assisting the Maintenance Engineer with breakdowns and planned maintenance, as required,
- routine recorded health & safety inspections,
providing holiday/sickness cover for other Kiln Operators and Kiln Assistants,
A degree of physical activity is intrinsic within this role, including manual handling product and equipment, negotiating steps/ladders/vertical ladders, and above ground open-mesh floor walkways, the use of certain hand tools and some minor maintenance tasks. There is also a requirement to wear items of personal protective equipment, (PPE), including, for certain tasks, respiratory protective equipment.
Working hours:
This position requires working a continental shift pattern of 12 hour days and nights as part of a 4-person team to efficiently and safely operate the kilns to produce the company’s expanded clay aggregate to the necessary quality.
Typical shift pattern: 2 days, 2 nights followed by 4 days off. The 3 days, 2 nights followed by 5 days off.
There is also a 2-month cover period whereby 15 days are required in each month to cover holiday and sickness.
Employment Package:
- Salary £52,815 per annum
- Annual holiday entitlement, comprising 22 days paid holiday increasing by 1 day per year up to 27 days, plus statutory holidays
- Participation in the profit-sharing scheme (discretionary payment being based on company performance)
