SHEQ Assistant

The Role

Based at our head office in Knottingley, West Yorkshire, we are seeking a motivated individual to work closely with our Group SHEQ Manager in continually improving and maintaining our SHEQ Management System.


This role is seen as a development role, for the right candidate, with a view to growing into the Group SHEQ Manager role over the next 18 months.


A degree of physical activity is intrinsic within this role including manual handling, negotiating steps/ladders/vertical ladders and above ground open-mesh floor walkways and walking across rough terrain in varying weather conditions. There is also a requirement to wear items of personal protective equipment including, on occasion, respiratory protective equipment.


The role will involve a mixture of office-based work and site-based work and there will be occasions when flexibility of working hours will be required.

Key Responsobilities:

  • Support the Group SHEQ Manager in all aspects of the SHEQ Management System and maintain accurate records within that System
  • Under direction of the Group SHEQ Manager, provide support to the various operations within the business
  • Gradually take ownership of aspects of the SHEQ Management System

The role will involve a mixture of office-based work and site-based work and there will be occasions when flexibility of working hours will be required. Some of the benefits:

  • Competitive salary dependent upon experience
  • 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, (though some flexibility is expected)
  • 22 days holiday per year, increasing to 27 over 5 years

  • Profit share, (after qualifying period).

The candidate

Qualification and skills:

  • Experience in working with policies and procedures
  • An understanding of safety and environmental risk assessments
  • An understanding of quality management systems
  • A motivation for personal development, including training courses
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office tools
